Andrew Mountbatten Windsor might be breathing a sigh of relief as royal chatter shifts heavily toward Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the U.K., which has been commanding significant attention since the news broke.
While Andrew remains a pariah within the royal family because of his ties to the Epstein scandal, his arrest on February 19, 2026, which happened to be his 66th birthday, has added to the scrutiny. Some of his alarming pictures were also allegedly leaked following the release of the Epstein files by the U.S. Department of Justice.
A Sigh of Relief for Andrew
Amid this, the controversial former royal also embarked upon international travels, which included the French Riviera. While scrutiny continues to linger upon Andrew, the Sussexes’ return to the U.K. along with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might take away some of the attention from him.
A Royal insider revealed to Radar Online, “Andrew is under no illusion about the seriousness of his own circumstances, but Harry and Meghan returning has completely transformed the royal news agenda. Suddenly everyone is talking about where the Sussexes will live, their relationship with the King and what happens with William. From Andrew’s perspective, having somebody else at the center of the royal storm inevitably provides some relief.”
Living a largely secluded life from the rest of the royal family, the former Duke of York currently resides at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk after he was stripped of his Royal titles in November last year for his alleged connection with convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew Declined to Join the Royal Family at Balmoral
According to reports, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor also declined an invitation to join the Royal Family at Balmoral this summer because he reportedly considers himself the black sheep or the outcast of the clan.

Andrew reportedly would have found it ‘embarrassing’ to attend the significant royal occasion. Another source said, “Andrew knows his position within the family has changed beyond recognition. The Sussexes coming back creates an enormous new set of complications for the Palace, and inevitably that means there is less attention available for him. He would certainly rather the headlines were about Harry andMeghan Markle than another examination of his own problems.”
The former Duke of York reportedly continues to remain under investigation in the Epstein scandal following his arrest in February 2026. However, he has repeatedly maintained his innocence in the controversy. His former wife, Sarah Ferguson, has also come under scrutiny for her connection to the scandal after her controversial chats with Epstein were leaked.
King Charles had also issued a statement following his younger brother’s arrest, which had put the entire Royal family under scrutiny. The monarch had said, “I have learned with the deepest concern the news about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and suspicion of misconduct in public office. Let me state clearly: the law must take its course. As this process continues, it would not be right for me to comment further on this matter.”
Meanwhile, according to the reports, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor traveled to international destinations like Nice and Cannes. He also became a grandfather after his daughter, Princess Eugenie, welcomed her third child, a daughter named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, earlier this month.
