Hilary Duff has played a number of iconic roles throughout her career, but one of her most surprising came during her time on the hit teen drama Gossip Girl.
Known to many fans for her wholesome early work, Duff briefly stepped into a much different world when she joined the series as Olivia Burke, a famous actress navigating the chaotic social scene of Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Her character quickly became part of the show’s dramatic storylines, including a headline-making moment that viewers still remember.
When Duff was recently asked about the "most memorable" part of playing Olivia, one scene immediately came to mind. “Probably the threesome was the most standout moment," Duff told Harper’s Bazaar in a recent interview.

Although Duff only appeared on the series for a single season, her character made a quick impact.
Olivia Burke was introduced as a movie star who crosses paths with Penn Badgley’s Dan Humphrey and soon becomes involved in his complicated world. One storyline, which included Dan and Jessica Szohr’s Vanessa Abrams, turned into one of the most talked-about moments as they got involved in a ménage à trois.
Looking back, Duff admitted the scene felt bold even for her at the time. As she filmed it, she remembers thinking to herself, “Oh, my mom's going to call me after this one.”

The moment stood out not only because of how unexpected it was for her career at the time, but also because fans still bring it up years later. In fact, the Lizzie McGuire star says the role continues to follow her in surprising places and recently recalled a funny interaction while traveling overseas.
"I was in Paris not too long ago and my bag got lost. I went up to the lady who worked at the airline and she's like, 'Are you on Gossip Girl?'" Duff recalled, responding to the attendant, "'Yes. Love that's how you know me.'"

While Olivia Burke may be remembered for one particularly wild storyline, Duff’s career stretches far beyond that brief TV appearance.
She first became a household name starring in Lizzie McGuire and later appeared in films like A Cinderella Story and Cadet Kelly. Today, she continues to balance motherhood, acting and music.
Her new album luck... or something was released on Feb. 20, and she’s preparing to hit the road for The Lucky Me Tour, which kicks off in June.
