According to One Chicago Center, the latest episode of Chicago Fire Season 15 saw Severide and his team responding to a factory with an ammonia leak. Kidd ordered the four probies to check the area for the shut-off valve but not to touch it. As Severide went after the victims trapped in the storage unit, Capp and Tony worked on fixing the source of the leak. Things took a turn when the pipe burst in Tony's face and he was admitted to Med with minor burns and injuries. Kidd and Severide concluded that one of the probies turned the valve, which led to Tony's accident.
Here is the complete recap.
Chicago Fire Season 15 Episode 3: Herrmann helps Cruz find his purpose again
As Chicago Fire Season 15 Episode 3 opened, Herrmann was worried about Cruz as he was not returning his calls. Severide suggested that Cruz was just busy with physical therapy but Herrmann was still concerned. Herrmann's hunch was proven right as Chloe informed him that Cruz hadn't left the house all week and had also missed his therapy sessions. Herrmann dropped by Cruz's house after his shift with some treats for the kids.
Cruz was upset with Chloe in Chicago Fire Season 15 Episode 3 for involving Herrmann. After dinner, Cruz confessed he was exhausted and demotivated. When Herrmann encouraged him to never give up, as his family needed him, Cruz got frustrated and asked him to leave.
The following day, Cruz returned to Firehouse 51 and confronted Herrmann about leaving Otis' cane at his house. Before he could leave, Tony asked for his help in repairing a saw, which set off a chain of events, with Cruz doing repair work at the firehouse. Herrmann was pleasantly surprised when he saw Cruz still at the firehouse, repairing the compartment door Severide had asked him about before his injury. It looks like Herrmann's meddling worked its magic as Cruz returned to therapy, as the episode concluded.

Once Kidd and Severide discovered somebody had tampered with the distribution valve, they gathered all four probies and asked them to come clean. Kidd maintained that one of the probies disobeyed a direct order, which sent Tony to the hospital. Since nobody was ready to take responsibility, Severide asked them to come clean before the end of their shift.
When nobody came forward at the end of the shift, Kidd worried that they were looking in the wrong direction. Chicago Fire Season 15 Episode 3 took a turn when Severide suggested going through the probies' gear. The hunch proved right as the couple found rust on the gloves of one of the probies, who was later revealed to be McCaffrey.
Severide and Kidd were ready to spare McCaffrey, as it was his first mistake and he was still a probie. Cruz also advised Severide to let it pass and keep an eye on him for now. But things escalated when Chief Tomlin arrived at the firehouse to see Severide. Their conversation quickly shifted to how the younger generation of firefighters needs guidance and patience from their superiors and Severide realized that the Chief was talking about McCaffrey.
It turns out, McCaffrey's father had a lot of connections. Kidd and Severide were naturally angry with McCaffrey for calling his family's connections instead of accepting his mistake.
In the final moments of Chicago Fire Season 15 Episode 3, the couple announced that they had cut the probie from the CFD. This naturally did not sit right with McCaffrey, who left while warning them it was not over and he would return.
