It's time to see *The Last Sunrise*.

** has the exclusive first look at Prime Video's new coming-of-age romance film from writer Anna Klassen and director Carlson Young.

Based on the novel from bestselling author Anna Todd, whose *After* series was previously adapted into a five-film franchise, *The Last Sunrise* stars* Pretty Little Liars* alum Maia Reficco as Ry, an American college student with a chronic illness who heads to Mallorca with her mother (Eva Longoria) for a summer escape.

Todd, who served as a producer on the movie "while writing the novel simultaneously," teases that the film adaptation has "some fun changes" from the book that have "really brought the world to life."

"What I love most about* The Last Sunrise* is that it's a beautiful summer romance with a deeper message about living in the moment," Longoria tells EW. "At its heart, it's about love, self-discovery, and finding joy even in uncertain times."

Before her filmmaking career, Young was an actress, appearing in everything from *Key & Peele *to the *Scream* series. She made her feature directing debut with 2021's fantasy horror-thriller *The Blazing World*, but shooting *The Last Sunrise* in Mallorca proved to be an especially "meaningful" experience.

"I was about eight weeks postpartum as we were shooting, and I was obviously feeling Eva and Maia's mother-daughter dynamic in a whole different way," Young says. "I felt nurtured by the island, and so inspired by Anna's story. It was a beautiful, creative summer."

It also proves to be a beautiful summer for Ry when she unexpectedly falls for Julián (Fernando Lindez). But, just as she's learning to live in the moment, her worsening condition and long-hidden family secrets threaten her magical few months.

Lindez says he looks forward to audiences experiencing that "emotional journey." In addition to the film's "beautiful visuals," he notes, "what stayed with me most was the humanity of the story and the relationships between the characters."

Reficco calls shooting the film "equally as fulfilling creatively as it was personally; everything one can dream of when it comes to a job." She adds, "I'm looking forward to sharing something we all so lovingly made together with the world, especially showcasing the gorgeous island of Majorca and a character with the complexity and life experience that Ry has."

When *The Last Sunrise* premieres on Prime Video in August, Young is "excited for our audience to escape with us into a love story that's genuine, deep, and begs the quietly urgent question: what are we living for?"
