It turns out that police responded to welfare-related calls at Rob Reiner’s Los Angeles home years before he and his wife Michele Singer Reinerwere brutally murdered.
According to records obtained by PEOPLE, officers were dispatched to the Reiners’ Brentwood residence on two separate occasions in 2019. The first call, placed on February 25, 2019, at 9:51 p.m., was coded as a welfare check. LAPD records indicate officers arrived shortly after 10 p.m., and the log instructed officers to “go to” a woman upon arrival, though no further details were included.
Several months later, on September 27, 2019, police were again called to the same address for what was categorized as a mental health–related incident involving a male individual. Officers arrived at the home around 5 p.m. and later reported to a supervisor that they found “no indication of mental illness.” The records do not specify who contacted authorities or who the calls were about.

The revelations come amid an ongoing criminal case involving the Reiners’ son, Nick Reiner, 32, who has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with his parents’ deaths. It appears that Rob, 78, and Michele, 70, were killed during the early morning hours of Sunday, December 14, inside their home, according to prosecutors.
Nick was arrested roughly six hours after the bodies were discovered, near the University of Southern California. He remains in custody without bail, with an arraignment scheduled for January 7. Authorities have not publicly disclosed a possible motive.
The night before the killings, Rob and Nick were reportedly involved in a “very loud argument” at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien. Other sources say that Nick was also involved in a heated chat with actor Bill Hader. Nick has previously spoken about long-standing struggles with addiction and periods of homelessness beginning in his teens. A source close to the family told PEOPLE that Rob and Michele “tried everything—giving him space, keeping him close—but his struggles run very deep.”
