'Paradise' Season 2 Episode 4 Has Fans Ready To Fight Hulu: 'Why Did You Do This To Me?'

ParadiseSeason 2 is well underway, with the three-episode premiere having dropped on Hulu and Disney+ on February 23 and the fourth episode having released on March 2. However, while fans may have believed they knew where this season was going following the first three episodes, Episode 4 introduced a jaw-dropping, heartbreaking plot twist that has the Internet in an uproar.
SPOILER—This post includes spoilers from Paradise Season 2 Episode 4.
Season 2 Episode 1 introduced a brand-new character, Annie (Shailene Woodley), a young woman who had been working as a tour guide at Elvis Presley'sestate, Graceland, when the supervolcano (followed by a massive tsunami and even nuclear warfare) struck. The first episode of the new season revealed that Annie stayed there, alongside a woman named Gayle (Angel Laketa Moore), in the aftermath.
Sadly, Gayle died, but it seemed as though Annie was going to become a major new character on the show. She had her own arc wherein she became pregnant following her encounter with a man named Link (Thomas Doherty), who is on a mission to "restart the world," along with a group of his friends. By the end of Episode 3, she had also already crossed paths with star of the show Xavier (Sterling K. Brown).
Yet, Episode 4 shocked audiences by revealing that Annie's arc was going to be far from what many were expecting following the three-episode premiere. Although she had befriended Xavier, positioning her as a key character, she went into labor and, due to her preeclampsia, she died.

She did deliver the baby and get to meet her before her sudden death—leaving Xavier with the task of bringing the baby to her father—but it seems that Annie's story in Paradise may already be over, just as it was getting started.
Fans, who had taken to Annie quickly and were expecting her to have a much longer run on the show, have since expressed their heartbreak, distress and even anger about this shocking plot twist online.
In one TikTok, a Paradise viewer sobbed and asked, "Why would you do this to me?" Commenters seemed to agree, with one saying, "i’m so mad i was legit yelling wait what she’s supposed to be a main character ?!" and another saying, "I just cried for 15 minutes like why are they torturing us."
In another post, which references Woodley's The Secret Life of the American Teenager character Amy Juergens, comments likewise expressed heartbreak and outrage. One comment simply reads, "I’m ready to fight Hulu for this." Another says, "Annoyed cause I started watching cause of her and she lasted a total of 4 episodes……"
It remains to be seen whether Woodley will truly be gone from the show moving forward. After all, James Marsden'scharacter, President Cal Bradford, died in the very first episode, but he has been present throughout. Annie plays a very different role than Cal, but it's possible that she will have additional appearances in some form as well. Clearly, many fans would welcome that return after this devastating death.
